The Deal Foundation operates in seven taluks of Gadag district. Below are the details of the activities and events conducted in February:
1 . The following are the details of the formation of the Self Help Society of the Handicapped and Women in the month of February.
This month, a total of two self-help groups were formed in Gadag, Mundargi, and Shirahatti taluks, comprising 20 members. No self-help groups for persons with disabilities were formed, and there were no members from this category. However, two women’s self-help groups were established with 20 members. The purpose of these groups is to enable members, including persons with disabilities, to secure bank loans and engage in self-employment activities such as dairy farming, agriculture, sheep and goat rearing, and various other occupations.
- Haripriya Mahila Self-Help Group – Ramenahalli, Mundargi Taluk, Gadag District
- Valmiki Mahila Self-Help Group – Budihal, Mundargi Taluk
2) In Gadag, Shirahatti, Gajendragad, Naragund, and Mundargi taluks, a total of two self-help groups for persons with disabilities have been formed, consisting of 20 members. There were no women’s self-help groups formed this month. To facilitate financial transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, and access to bank loan facilities, savings accounts have been opened in the names of these groups at Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank and Canara Bank.
1) Mallikarjuna Self-Help Group for Persons with Disabilities, Shirahatti Taluk, Shirahatti
2) Swami Vivekananda Self-Help Group for Persons with Disabilities, Undenahalli, Lakshmeshwar Taluk.
3) In the taluks of Gadag, Nargund, Shirahatti, and Mundaragi, a total of 20 members from 2 self-help groups for persons with disabilities and 20 members from 2 women’s self-help groups received the following training programs: Disability Awareness Training, Financial Literacy Training, Leadership Training, Entrepreneurship Training, Sustainable Livelihood Training.These training sessions were conducted to empower members of the self-help groups and enhance their skills for better financial stability and self-employment opportunities.
In Gadag and Mundaragi taluks, the following self-help groups have been established:
- Grama Devate Self-Help Group for Persons with Disabilities – Chikkappa, Gadag Taluk
- Jai Shri Ram Self-Help Group for Persons with Disabilities – Singatarayanakere, Mundaragi Taluk
- Durgadevi Women’s Self-Help Group – Harogeri, Mundaragi Taluk
- Ganavi Women’s Self-Help Group – Harogeri, Mundaragi Taluk
4). In Gadag, Mundaragi, Shirahatti, Naragund, Gajendragad, Ron, and Lakshmeshwar taluks, a total of seven self-help groups have availed bank loans. This includes:
- 2 Self-Help Groups for Persons with Disabilities
- 5 Women’s Self-Help Groups
A total of 60 members have benefited from these loans, enabling them to engage in self-employment and livelihood activities.
5) In Mundaragi Taluk, a board meeting was held at the Surakshita Credit Cooperative Society in Mevundi village. During the meeting: Discussions were held on the activities of the society. The possibility of joining the District Protection Credit Cooperative Society was discussed with the self-help groups and their members.
1) In the Surakshita Credit Cooperative Society, the president was changed. Pakirappa Talawar from Baradur was newly elected as the president.
6) Parisara Samruddhi Farmer Producer Company Ltd., located in Mevundi, Mundargi Taluk, and Sortur Integrated Horticulture Farmer Producer Company, Sortur, Gadag Taluk, and Shirahatti conducted a Board of Directors meeting. Additionally, tarpaulins were sold for the benefit of farmers.
1) In Shirahatti Taluk, the Horticulture Department distributed seeds to 20 members of the Deal Foundation’s Women’s Self-Help Group to help them establish kitchen gardens.
- A training session on the PM FME scheme was conducted for the women’s self-help group members, with around 35 participants. The training covered how women can take loans to start self-employment ventures and the process of availing subsidies under the scheme. The session was conducted by Ms. Jayashree Hiremath from the Gadag District Industries Department.
- The Deal Foundation operates across seven taluks in Gadag district, conducting monthly meetings for women’s self-help groups (SHGs) and self-help groups for persons with disabilities. These meetings focus on reviewing activities, discussing financial matters, planning future initiatives, and addressing challenges faced by the members.
- This month, the Deal Foundation facilitated the formation of the “Gadag Shri Farmers’ Producer Organization” at the district level, bringing together members from Gadag and Gajendragad taluks.The primary objective of this initiative is to unite millet farmers, provide them with better market access, support value addition to their produce, and improve the economic conditions of persons with disabilities and women farmers.
- In the Deal Foundation’s farm, vermicompost production is being carried out. The compost is utilized across three acres of farmland, and it is also showcased and sold at exhibitions.Additionally, training sessions on vermicompost production are being conducted for self-help groups and families of persons with disabilities, empowering them with sustainable agricultural practices.
- The Deal Foundation has established a tailoring training center in Mevundi for women and families of persons with disabilities. This center has been running successfully for the past four years, providing continuous skill development in tailoring.
Upcoming Month’s Key Events:
- Establishment of 5 new SHGs, including 50 members with disabilities.
- Connecting 10 SHGs with financial institutions and facilitating bank linkages.
- Continuation of tailoring training and garment-making services in Mevundi.
- Expansion of organic fertilizer production for sustainable agriculture.
- Onboarding 250 new members into the Farmer Producer Organization (FPO).
- Mobilization of new cooperative members and fund collection for cooperative activities.
- Conducting awareness and structured training sessions for 10 SHGs.
- Strengthening activities at the ASK (Aarambha Self-Employment) Center.
- Preliminary meetings for district cooperative registrations in taluks excluding Mundargi.
