to day tasks with ease and in a seamless manner.

Much as it is important for all, it is more essential for persons with disabilities as they generally face chalenges due to the lack of proper functioning of one or more parts of their body.

One billion people, or 15% of the world’s population, experience some form of disability, and disability prevalence is higher in developing countries.

Infrastructure, if it is designed and used correctly can largely contribute to creating a society inclusive of persons with disabilities.

India has come a long way in trying to make accessible infrastructure for persons with disabilities for instance, the airlines has provided accessible parking zones for persons with disabilities. Similarly metros are working towards constructing elevators so that a person with a disability can get access to public domains without extra effort.

Indian Railways have also made ramps which are not slippery and are easily walkable. There are toilets built on the ground floor and there are different seats reserved inside the train for the disabled.

While this is being done, more active steps such as developing other means of transportation, non-negligence of disability issues, creating a barrier free environment, promoting awareness on the importance of infrastructure facilities by launching campaigns, creating blogs and videos, and setting good accessibility standards need to be taken so as to improve the all-round infrastructure of the country.

Disability Entrepreneurship And Leadership (DEAL) Foundation works actively across the districts of Gadag and Bengaluru to promote sustainable livelihood opportunities for persons with disabilities.

We believe that livelihoods can be at stake if there is no or limited access to good infrastructure for persons with disabilities.

Hence, we actively involve ourselves in promoting awareness on accessible infrastructure by connecting with people responsible for initiating an accessible environment.
