My Story: Dhavalasab Mulagunda

We had a chat with Mr. Dhavalasab Mulagunda to understand more about him and his association with deal foundation.

Hello Mr. Dhavalasab Mulagunda. Do you mind if we have a little chat with you to understand more about you and your association DEAL Foundation?

Most certainly. I would be more than happy to talk about my life experiences and use this opportunity to express myself and also about the wonderful work of the foundation.

At the outset, can you tell me more about yourself and your disability?

Sure, I am Dhavalasab Mulagunda residing at Harlapur in Gadag district. Since birth, I contracted polio which has affected my left limb. This took a huge toll on my life and that of my family.

But as life goes on, and with passing time, I gradually began to accept my disability and I rose to the challenge of achieving something in life despite my disability.

So, how has this situation impacted you?

Well, my disability fortunately left me with a positive impact thanks to the earnest support provided to me by my family and friends, which has enabled me to gain more self-confidence and courage to face the future.

This has largely helped me become who I am today.

However, it none the less doesn’t take away the fact that I had to undergo a number of challenges especially as a child. Like every other child at school I also felt the urge to play games, take part in different sports and games but was left behind due to my disability.

Also, the bus station from and to the school was far off and I found it challenging to get there on time, which was a real challenge for me.

But, with the earnest support from my family and friends and with my willing ness to achieve something in life, I was able to successfully complete my 12th grade.

So what do you do currently?

I currently work as a village rehabilitation worker (VRW) at Harlapur where I reside. I also run a small café   which is doing well and enabling me to lead an independent life.

I have the confidence that I can do more so as to earn a lot more and support my family better.

Finally, what is your opinion about DEAL Foundation?

Like I said at the beginning, the foundation is doing a wonderful work of providing sustainable opportunities for persons with disabilities across Gadag district.

I have been associated with the foundation for a long time now, it has been a fulfilling one for which I know I have the members of the foundation to thank.

It is because of the trainings I have attended provided by the foundation, I am now confident to do more for myself and my family.

I am an active member of Daivashakati disabled men’s self-help group which has enabled me gain a lot in terms of my personal development and financially as well.

Over all, the foundation has helped me understand how to see life differently and has instilled in me the hope and confidence to face the future.

I would like to join the foundation in their efforts to build individual and community resilience and help create sustainable livelihood opportunities for persons with disabilities.

I see my association with deal as a volunteer continuing to make a difference to the people living around me.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to express myself and my gratitude to the foundation.

I would like to thank you for your time and wish you all the best for your future.
